Politics 2027: We will participate in elections despite factional leadership – PDP Published on April 26, 2026 By Timi Owolabi googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1500386953281-8'); }); Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has pledged to accept the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections, provided the process is credible. Tuggar gave the assurance on Sunday while hosting journalists in Bauchi during an interactive session, a day after declaring his intention to contest for the APC governorship ticket. “I am a faithful and committed party man. This is not the first time I am coming out to aspire. I have never challenged the outcome nor worked against the party. All we are yearning for is transparent processes,” he said. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); He noted that his past participation in party primaries without disputes demonstrated his loyalty to the party. “As you can see, I have with me here three past state chairmen of political parties under whom I aspired and contested. If I were a troublesome party man, they would not be here with me,” Tuggar added. The governorship aspirant also declared his readiness to accept any mode of primary adopted by the party. “Either consensus or direct primaries, I am ready for it. I will abide by the results provided that due processes were duly followed and applied,” he stated. Reacting to allegations that the ruling party was steering the country towards a one-party system, Tuggar dismissed the claims, describing them as routine political exchanges. “From both sides, there are accusations and counter-accusations. Even APC members have reasons to complain about some things that members of the opposition are doing. It is a normal thing,” he said. He expressed optimism that the 2027 elections would feature multiple presidential candidates, assuring that Nigerians would retain the freedom to choose their leaders. Tuggar, however, voiced confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would emerge as the APC presidential candidate and secure re-election in 2027.
