95% drop in Hormuz shipping since Iran war starts
95% of cargo ships and tankers have stopped passing through the Strait of Hormuz since US-Israeli strikes on Iran began February 28. Kpler data shows only 114 crossings from March 1-19, down from peacetime levels. Most ships are Iranian-owned (69 oil tankers, 18% Greek, 10% Chinese), with 35 sanctioned ships among oil/gas tankers. Iranian oil exports average 1.3 million barrels/day to China, far below pre-war 5 million. Alternative routes through Suez Canal (+70%) and Bab el-Mandeb (+280%) are absorbing diverted traffic. Indian and Pakistani ships are reportedly transiting under Iranian approval. This reduces global oil supply, potentially affecting Nigerian fuel prices.
