AAC's Sowore alleges IGP Egbetokun removed, no confirmation
AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore alleged on Tuesday that Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has been removed from office. Sowore claimed Egbetokun was replaced by a senior officer at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) in Lagos. No official confirmation from the Presidency or Nigeria Police Force was available at the time of reporting. Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin did not respond to calls or messages. Sowore has previously questioned Egbetokun's tenure, arguing he should have retired at 60. President Tinubu appointed Egbetokun as acting IGP in October 2023 pending National Assembly confirmation, effective October 31. A 2024 Police Act amendment allows Egbetokun to serve until October 2027 despite age. Sowore's claim lacks official verification.
