The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) chairman Mamman Osuman urged Nigerians to hold political leaders accountable for insecurity, poverty, and economic hardship, speaking at the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary. He warned that some of these painful conditions are perpetrated or aggravated by those entrusted with leadership, calling leadership a sacred trust not a path for personal gain. Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Osuman urged eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) and vote based on individual analysis of candidates’ records, policies, and national issues, not merely on party directives. He also appealed to youths and all citizens to exercise restraint, avoid trouble‑prone gatherings, and reject inflammatory rhetoric, violence, and destruction of lives and property, stressing that no political contest is worth a human life. Emphasizing collective responsibility, he said securing Nigeria’s future requires commitment from government and citizens alike to peace, unity, justice, good governance, and the dignity of every Nigerian.

For voters, this means checking your PVC status now, researching candidates’ track records, and deciding your vote on conscience rather than party lines.

It also means staying away from known flashpoints during campaign periods and promoting peaceful discourse.

By holding leaders accountable and voting responsibly, Nigerians can influence governance to address insecurity, poverty, and economic challenges that directly affect daily life.
