ACP launches Nigeria climate-resilient fund to mobilise institutional capital
AFC Capital Partners has launched the Infrastructure Climate-Resilient Fund Nigeria (ICRF Nigeria), a SEC-registered closed-end fund designed to mobilise domestic institutional capital for climate-resilient infrastructure projects across Nigeria and the wider African continent. The fund is part of ACP's US$750 million Infrastructure Climate-Resilient Fund, which aims to mobilise up to US$3.7 billion in total financing and build a diversified portfolio of 10 to 12 infrastructure projects across Africa. ICRF Nigeria targets sectors such as renewable energy, transport and logistics, digital infrastructure and industrial development, integrating climate risk screening and blended finance to de‑risk investments. Anchor investors include the Green Climate Fund, which committed US$253 million as first‑loss capital—the largest equity investment in Africa to date—alongside the European Investment Bank, Development Bank of Southern Africa, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority and several African pension funds. AFC's President Samaila Zubairu noted that Nigeria holds more than US$4 trillion in domestic savings, yet much remains in low‑risk, short‑term instruments rather than productive sectors like infrastructure. ACP's CEO Ayaan Adam said the fund gives Nigerian institutional investors a dedicated route into high‑quality, climate‑resilient opportunities, allowing long‑term savings to contribute to resilient growth. For PFAs, insurers, asset managers and other Nigerian institutional investors, the fund offers a channel to invest in climate‑smart projects while earning returns; retail investors are not directly targeted.
