ActorEric Dane dies at 53 after ALS battle

American actor Eric Dane, celebrated for roles in Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria, died at 53 following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Best known as Dr Mark Sloan ('Dr McSteamy') on Grey's Anatomy and Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, Dane's career spanned television and film. Diagnosed with ALS last year, he used his final months to raise awareness about the rare degenerative condition affecting nerve cells and muscle movement. Dane was survived by his wife Rebecca Gayheart and daughters Billie and Georgia. His family stated he spent his final days surrounded by loved ones. Dane appeared in Charmed, The Last Ship, Marley & Me, and Burlesque.
