Politics ADC alleges APC plot to destabilise party amid political realignments Published on April 1, 2026 By Kabeer Bello googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1500386953281-8'); }); The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sounded the alarm over what it describes as a renewed attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilise the opposition party amid evolving political realignments. In a statement shared on his official X account, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, alleged that plans are underway to stage a protest in Abuja aimed at influencing ongoing legal and political disputes within the party. According to Abdullahi, the development follows what he claimed was an earlier failed effort by APC-linked actors to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into taking “illegal actions” against the ADC after the recent defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the party. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); He said: “After meeting a brick wall with INEC, they have now changed tactics, but the objectives remain the same.” The ADC spokesperson further alleged that a protest scheduled for Thursday, April 2, in Abuja, is being sponsored by “a particularly notorious minister,” with the aim of creating public pressure on INEC. He explained that the protest would allegedly involve individuals posing as aggrieved party members calling for the removal of David Mark from a leadership position. “The plan is simple: a paid crowd, posturing as aggrieved party members, will take to the streets demanding ‘David Mark Must Go,’” Abdullahi claimed. He argued that the move is intended to influence the electoral body into recognising an individual whom he said had already resigned and been expelled from the ADC. Describing the situation as a broader political strategy, Abdullahi added: “The plan by the ruling APC government to hijack the leadership of the ADC is real. If anything, it has assumed a new level of desperation in the past few days.” The spokesperson maintained that the ADC would remain law-abiding but would resist any attempt to undermine its structure through legal means. He also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene if those allegedly involved are acting without his approval. “If they are not acting on his orders, President Tinubu should rein in his enforcers before it is too late,” he said. So far, there has been no official response from the APC or the Federal Government regarding the allegations.
