ADC chieftain says fuel subsidy removal hurting Nigerians, calls for review

ADC chieftain Kola Ologbondiyan told Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily that the fuel subsidy removal is taking a toll on Nigerians and urged the Tinubu administration to review the regime. He spoke while backing ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s position on the issue, noting that nobody in the ADC is calling for a return to the old subsidy system.

Ologbondiyan said fuel used to cost about ₦200 or less before May 29, 2023, but now sells for ₦1,300, a rise he described as strangulating. He argued the situation has forced Nigerians to their knees and is not static, stressing that the subsidy removal’s promised benefits have not been fulfilled and the policy hurts both citizens and the administration.

He added that Atiku’s proposal focuses on reviewing the cost of production from source to end user to find areas where expenses can be cut, allowing lower pump prices without reinstating subsidy.
