ADC spokesperson labels Tinubu 'absentee President,' unfit for re-election
Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, described President Bola Tinubu as an 'absentee President' unfit for re-election, saying Tinubu avoids direct contact with Nigerians and independent media. Okonkwo made the claim in a statement on his verified X handle on Saturday.
He said Tinubu plans to campaign in only 12 of Nigeria's 36 states plus the FCT, amounting to roughly 30% national coverage, and warned that the president has not granted regular interviews to independent outlets or subjected himself to national debates with other opposition candidates.
Okonkwo also raised fiscal concerns, noting that in the first half of 2026 the Federal Government spent N7.7 trillion on interest payments while revenue stood at N6.2 trillion, meaning interest exceeded revenue by N1.5 trillion and leaving Nigeria technically bankrupt. He asked how voters could support a leader whose origin, schools, plans and policies remain unknown.
What should you consider when evaluating Tinubu's re-election bid in light of these claims about his accessibility, campaign reach, and the country's debt situation?
