David Mark-led ADC supporters occupied Federal High Court entrance in Abuja Monday, urging judiciary not to be used to stifle opposition parties. The protest centers on ongoing legal battle between Mark's faction and Nafiu Bala-Gombe-led NWC challenging Mark's leadership. Protesters claim Supreme Court's referral back to Federal High Court is a ploy to distract the opposition. In April, Supreme Court set aside Court of Appeal order and directed expedited hearing of the suit challenging Mark's emergence as party leader. Following the verdict, INEC restored Mark as National Chairman and reinstated other NWC members including Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary. With 2027 elections approaching, this internal dispute could impact opposition unity and strategy.
