Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accused President Bola Tinubu of deliberately filling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with individuals from Yorubaland to manipulate the 2027 general election. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday night, Momodu claimed the move is intended to ensure the election is not free and fair. He also stated that Yoruba people, including those from his maternal home state of Osun, are suffering just like residents in the Northwest, Northeast, North-Central, Southeast, and South-South regions. Momodu described the Yoruba electorate as the most enlightened in Nigeria, noting that while they supported Governor Adeleke due to performance, that support is not unconditional. He added that about ninety percent of Tinubu’s current cabinet consists of his cronies, implying broader patronage networks. The allegations have not been independently verified, and INEC has not issued a response. Given the approaching 2027 election, such claims raise concerns about institutional neutrality and public trust in the electoral process. If these accusations are true, how might they affect voter confidence and the legitimacy of the upcoming polls?
