Adeniyi Adeyemi admits borrowing N400 million for fake PFIPC appointment amid fraud charges
The alleged Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, told Channels Television's Politics Today on July 13 that he borrowed N400 million to secure his appointment—a claim he made while facing arraignment later that day on forgery and impersonation charges filed by Nigeria Police. Adeyemi stated the lenders have since petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) demanding repayment, noting 'they have also written to the EFCC asking me to refund their money.' He dismissed reports of seeking U.S. political asylum, insisting he remains in Nigeria. Adeyemi challenged the government's position that PFIPC doesn't exist, alleging coordinated attacks against him and pointing to references of both PFIPC and the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) in the 2026 Appropriation Act. President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the alleged fake agency, with Ministries, Departments and Agencies ordered to cooperate. The Senate has deferred any legislative probe pending the ICPC's outcome, which will trace financial transactions, identify exploited institutional weaknesses, and recommend preventive measures.
