Aeon raises $1M pre-seed led by Terra to expand cyber defence platform
Nigerian cybersecurity startup Aeon secured a $1 million pre-seed round led by defence-tech startup Terra Industries, with participation from Resilience 17 (founded by Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola), Kaleo, DFS Labs, Ajim Capital, and Seedstars. The funds will develop Aeon's cybersecurity products, expand business development, and convert existing pilots with financial services and cloud infrastructure companies into commercial deployments. This comes as Interpol estimated over $3 billion in cyber-related financial losses across Africa between 2019 and 2025, and linked AI to 55% of reported cybercrimes in its 2026 assessment. Aeon offers two product suites: Aeon Console, a web-based platform for risk detection, vulnerability management, policy enforcement, response, and evidence gathering; and Aeon Edge, a network-based tool providing visibility into connected devices and the ability to isolate compromised ones. Its business model relies on annual licensing, with Console available in three modular tiers. Aeon also announced a commercial joint venture with Terra: Terra handles physical security components of contracts, while Aeon provides cybersecurity, with customers signing through Terra who can extend the contract to include Aeon's services. Terra recently announced $2 million in contracts for Sentry towers and Iroko drones at Nigerian lithium mining sites and a separate $1 million contract with Anka Metals in Kaduna; Aeon is assessing potential involvement. The PipeOps team, Aeon's parent entity, had managed Terra's internal infrastructure for roughly two years prior to the partnership. Aeon operates a cybersecurity marketplace featuring global vendors like Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Check Point, alongside African firms such as Kenya's Serianu and Morocco's Nucleon Security, aiming to build a cybersecurity infrastructure layer for critical organisations across the Global South. Given the rising AI-driven cyber threat, will high-trust organisations in finance, energy, oil & gas, and mobility adopt Aeon's unified platform to replace fragmented security tools?
