The 2025 AFCON in Morocco has become the highest-scoring edition in the tournament's history, with 120 goals already recorded. This surpasses the previous record of 119 goals set at the 2023 edition in Ivory Coast, and eclipses the 102 goals scored in 2019 when the tournament expanded to 24 teams.

The scoring surge was driven by several of Africa's top players, with Morocco's Brahim Diaz leading the charts with five goals. Nigeria's Victor Osimhen and Egypt's Mohammed Salah are close behind, each with four goals.

The record is set ahead of two crucial matches: the third-place playoff between Nigeria and Egypt, and the final between Morocco and Senegal. CAF has confirmed the referees for the Nigeria vs Egypt clash, while Egypt's Trezeguet has stated his team wants a podium finish, and Nigeria's Bassey confirmed the Super Eagles will 'push hard' for victory.

With both the third-place and final matches yet to be played, the total goal count could increase further. Is this scoring record a sign of improved attacking quality across the continent, or simply a reflection of the expanded 24-team format?
