Afreximbank posted a net income of $534.7 million for the first half of 2026, a 30% jump from $412.7 million in the same period last year. The bank disclosed the results on Monday, August 24, 2026, in a statement from Cairo, Egypt, covering the six months ended June 30.

The stronger performance came from higher net interest income, which rose 22% to $1.0 billion, and fee and commission income up 15% to $71.1 million. Total assets grew 7.8% to $52.3 billion, driven by a 5.7% increase in net loans and advances to $35.4 billion. The bank’s non‑performing loan ratio improved to 2.20% from 2.43% at end‑2025, while return on average shareholders’ equity climbed to 13% and return on average assets to 2.54%.

After the reporting period, Afreximbank launched a $1.5 billion dual‑tranche bond issuance—its largest ever—about twice oversubscribed. Liquid assets stood at 13% of total assets, within the 10‑15% target range. Intra‑African trade rose 5.47% to $213.8 billion in 2025, underpinning the bank’s lending growth.

With a solid balance sheet and expanding trade flows, Afreximbank is positioned to continue financing trade, industrialisation and investment across African and Caribbean economies. Will this strengthened capacity translate into more accessible credit for African businesses and traders navigating a complex global environment?
