Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi told the House of Representatives Committee on Justice that delays in fund releases and inadequate budget allocations are hindering justice sector reforms. Speaking on Wednesday, he revealed only 82% of N7.5 billion for overhead costs was released over 10 months, while capital expenditure received just 12% of N6.75 billion, stalling projects. Despite these challenges, progress continues in criminal justice reforms, counter-terrorism, FATF grey list exit, and asset recovery. For 2026, the ministry seeks N23.68 billion to support reforms and new initiatives. Committee Chairman Olumide Osoba pledged to review budgets and strengthen oversight to prevent funding shortfalls from stalling reforms.
