Former Nigerian Bar Association president Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, urged Nigerians to make informed choices in the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing that voters must assess candidates’ character, leadership capacity and ability to deliver change rather than ethnic or regional ties. Speaking in an X post on Wednesday, Agbakoba pointed to persistent national challenges—rising food prices, inadequate healthcare, a struggling education system and scarce job opportunities—as evidence that past electoral choices have not served the people well.

He warned that voters sometimes surrender their votes without considering consequences, enabling elected officials to act against public interests. Agbakoba stressed that Nigeria’s large population relative to the small political class means citizens ultimately hold the power to select representatives who reflect their needs. He urged Nigerians to scrutinize candidates’ track records, discipline and vision for meaningful impact, noting that informed ballot decisions are the path to change.

As political parties and aspirants begin positioning for the 2027 general election, Agbakoba’s reminder comes at a time when many Nigerians grapple with daily hardships linked to governance failures. The call underscores the voter’s role in shaping the country’s direction through careful, issue‑based selection of leaders.
