Amaechi, the ADC vice presidential candidate and former Rivers State governor, told Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday that President Tinubu’s economic policies contributed to the death of his mother, Ezinne Amaechi, who died on 16 July 2026 at age 89. He said before Tinubu took office in 2023 his mother was healthy, but afterward he struggled to afford her medication.

He accused the administration of making life harder through subsidy removals and reforms, declaring ‘Tinubu’s policies killed my mother.’ Amaechi also challenged Tinubu on fuel pricing, offering to abandon his running mate role for Atiku Abubakar and campaign for the president if petrol sells for N600 per litre, insisting he would personally verify the price at a filling station.

Beyond the personal allegation, Amaechi labelled the Tinubu government more corrupt than Buhari’s, arguing corruption is now glaring rather than hidden, and demanded the administration name one major infrastructure project completed since 2023, noting achievements like the Abuja‑Kaduna rail under Buhari. His remarks came a day after Tinubu’s Independence Day address defending the reforms as correcting structural weaknesses.
