Analyst urges FG to execute terrorists, not rehab them with public funds
Public affairs analyst and House of Representatives aspirant Dickson Iroegbu called for the execution of captured terrorists instead of rehabilitating them with taxpayer money during an Arise Television interview on Friday. Iroegbu, a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, argued that rehabilitating terrorists who have killed soldiers—including generals—demonstrates harmful leniency on insecurity and wastes public funds.
He stated that soldiers' morale is low when terrorists who killed their commanders are reintegrated into society using government resources. Iroegbu questioned whether the government excuses terrorist recruitment by claiming perpetrators acted without knowledge, calling the policy disturbing and counterproductive to national security efforts.
The analyst also claimed politics has overridden governance since President Bola Tinubu assumed office. With Nigeria facing ongoing terrorist threats, Iroegbu's position raises a critical policy question: Does executing terrorists rather than rehabilitating them better serve national security interests and justify the use of public funds in counter-terrorism strategy?
