ANCOPSS demands nationwide digital infrastructure overhaul in Nigerian secondary schools
Heads of Secondary Schools under ANCOPSS called on all levels of government to overhaul digital infrastructure in schools and improve teacher welfare and digital skills, issuing the demand in a communiqué after their 68th National Congress in Kaduna on August 21, 2026. The congress theme was "Leading the Digital Leap, Redefining Quality Education through Technology-driven Assessment and School Management."
Principals stressed that effective digital education requires more than just buying computers - it needs investment in teacher training, reliable power supply, internet connectivity, appropriate devices, cybersecurity, data protection, and accessibility for learners with special needs. They highlighted the digital divide disadvantaging learners without home internet access and varying device quality across schools.
The association specifically urged continuous practical training for teachers and administrators on using and maintaining digital equipment, improved teacher remuneration reflecting their role as "nation builders," and reliable internet plus renewable energy alternatives for schools designated as digital schools. ANCOPSS also called for stronger support for implementing the TVET curriculum to prepare students for AI, automation, renewable energy and global competition.
Will this push for comprehensive digital reform finally bridge Nigeria's education technology gap, or will implementation lag behind the ambitious vision?
