Anthropic, maker of the Claude chatbot, said its preliminary second-quarter 2026 revenue exceeded $11.5 billion, up 1,360% from $787 million in Q2 2025, according to Bloomberg News citing documents shown to prospective investors. The surge comes less than two months after the company confidentially filed for an initial public offering with the U.S. SEC in June, becoming the first major generative AI firm to start the listing process. Anthropic had reported $4.73 billion in Q1 2026 revenue, indicating acceleration within the quarter. The company projects 2028 revenue between $190 billion and $200 billion, far above its current $47 billion annual run rate disclosed in May. Anthropic’s IPO would position it ahead of rivals like OpenAI, which filed confidentially a week later and is valued at about $852 billion. For Nigerian tech observers, this highlights the rapid valuation growth in AI globally, potentially influencing investor appetite for African AI startups and underscoring the importance of AI skills development. The revenue figures remain subject to revision as deliberations continue, and Anthropic declined to comment on the Bloomberg report.
