APC adopts direct primary for 2026 presidential election
All Progressives Congress (APC) has chosen direct primary system for its 2026 presidential primary, allowing all registered party members nationwide to select the party's flagbearer for 2027 election. Voting will be conducted simultaneously across the country's 8,809 wards.
The decision follows completion of presidential aspirants' screening and is part of nationwide primaries that began with House of Representatives last Friday, followed by Senate primaries on Monday, with state assemblies, governorship and presidential contests to follow in phases.
Current presidential aspirants are incumbent President Bola Tinubu and Stanley Osifo, a trader from Edo State. Results will be collated at ward level, then local government level, before being forwarded to state coordinators for transmission to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on May 24.
The party appointed former Senate President Pius Anyim as committee chairman, with governors including Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers) serving as state coordinators.
