APC has dumped more than 50 current House of Representatives members and senators, following nationwide primaries for the 2027 general elections. The sweeping rejections include prominent lawmakers like Nicholas Mutu (in office since 1999), Majority Leader Julius Ihonvbere, and Senators Ovie Omo-Agege and Ned Nwoko.

In Cross River State, five of the eight serving representatives lost their tickets, including three-term member Mike Etaba. Rivers State, Delta State, Ekiti, Ogun, and Enugu also saw multiple incumbents rejected. The purge targets lawmakers who previously backed controversial executive policies like fuel subsidy removal and Electoral Act amendments.

Disputes are emerging as Jibrin Isah (Kogi Senator) claims primaries were "compromised from the outset" and Teju Okuyiga (Ekiti) alleges "no voting in most wards." Analyst Nduka Odo criticized the rejected lawmakers as "victims of a system they helped create," noting they "dug pits for the opposition" by supporting executive influence.

What does this tell us about Nigeria's political landscape? When loyalty to the presidency doesn't guarantee survival, what strategies will help politicians navigate future elections?
