Arise News Editor warns Minister Musawa on Tinubu/Shettima ticket remarks
Arise News Political Editor Sumner Sambo suggested Minister of Culture Hannatu Musawa may face political consequences for warning against dropping Vice President Kashim Shettima from President Tinubu's 2027 re-election ticket. Sambo said this Monday on Arise Television's Morning Show, noting Musawa's comments could have negative implications for her political standing.
Sambo recalled that Tinubu frequently changed deputy governors during his time as Lagos State governor, questioning why he couldn't replace Shettima if politically expedient. He warned that any move perceived as reinforcing South-West and North-West dominance could backfire, suggesting Tinubu might select a North-West Christian minority as running mate.
While acknowledging Musawa's concerns about APC's electoral chances have validity, Sambo emphasized that national politics differs from state-level calculations. He suggested Tinubu, who sees himself as a master strategist, might not welcome being told the truth, and any strategic mistake could be capitalized on by the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
