The Nigerian Army announced operational successes in Borno State between March 28 and 30, 2026, under Operation Hadin Kai. Troops in Damboa, Gwoza, Askira Uba, and Maiduguri repelled planned Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks, intercepted vehicles carrying two truckloads of terrorist supplies (medical drugs, motorcycle parts, mosquito nets), and arrested suspects including Mohammed Adamu, 26, and Abubakar Ali (alias Saina). An IED on the Goniri Ngamdu road was also safely detonated.

However, these reported gains have sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians who question their real-world impact amid persistent insecurity. Social media comments highlighted frustration, with users accusing the military of failure and urging a focus on financial sponsors.

Separately, a harrowing account from an Ekiti farm manager, kidnapped for 42 days, detailed violence, ransom demands (initial N100 million, later reduced), and a tractor operator's death after failed payment. Survivors were moved between camps, poorly fed, and released only after payments between N1 million and N20 million.

This juxtaposition of official military updates with a brutal kidnap narrative from outside the North East underscores a perceived disconnect between reported operations and the widespread experience of citizens facing violent crime across regions.
