Arsenal complete free signing of former Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier
Arsenal have secured Illan Meslier on a free transfer after the French goalkeeper completed medicals and signed his contract in London on Tuesday. The 24-year-old joins Mikel Arteta's squad to compete for the goalkeeper position alongside David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Meslier previously made 137 appearances for Leeds United before leaving the club. Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal on X, noting Meslier accepted Arsenal's project after medical completion. This signing follows Arsenal's earlier permanent acquisition of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, marking Arteta's second summer reinforcement. The move addresses Arsenal's goalkeeper depth after losing Aaron Ramsdale to injury concerns last season. No transfer fee was involved as Meslier was a free agent following his Leeds departure. Meslier brings Champions League experience and has represented France at youth level.
