ASUU has warned Nigerian universities may face another round of industrial unrest over what the union describes as the federal government's 'distorted implementation' of the December 2025 agreement. The warning came after the union's NEC meeting at Modibbo Adama University between May 9-10, with ASUU President Christopher Piwuna accusing the government of failing to inaugurate the Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) designed to ensure smooth execution.

Universities are already seeing brief strikes - University of Lagos, University of Jos and Ahmadu Bello University chapters have taken action over non-implementation and delayed salaries. ASUU claims agreement is being implemented 'in a distorted and uncoordinated manner' with vice-chancellors selectively paying components like CATA, EAA, and PA instead of full CONUASS integration.

The union listed unresolved welfare issues including 25-35% salary award arrears, promotion arrears, withheld 2022 strike salaries, IPPIS-linked shortfalls, and pension arrears for retired lecturers. Despite Education Minister Tunji Alausa's assurance that implementation would begin in January, ASUU says the fragile industrial peace is at risk of collapse.
