Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has asked the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) to provide a detailed breakdown of the N11.2 trillion recorded in its 2025 accounts as receivables from the Federation. In a statement issued Sunday by his aide Phrank Shaibu, Atiku also called on the Presidency to disclose any financial or material support given to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign by government contractors.

He wants NNPC to state how much of the N11.2 trillion relates to protecting Nigeria’s oil and gas infrastructure, what payments were made, who received them and what services were provided. Atiku noted that NNPC’s 2024 audited statements showed N17.512 trillion in Federation receivables—split into N8.672 trillion for energy-security costs and N8.840 trillion in other receivables—but the 2025 figure of roughly N11.2 trillion lacks similar detail, leaving Nigerians unable to tell what was spent specifically on pipeline surveillance.

Atiku compared the amount to federal defence spending, urging transparency amid security challenges elsewhere. He also questioned the political activities of Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), founder of Tantita Security Services, which holds a federal pipeline surveillance contract while sponsoring the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement that has presented campaign vehicles to Tinubu’s supporters in Katsina and Taraba states. Additionally, Atiku asked for full disclosure of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project award to Hitech Construction Company, alleging the deal lacked open competitive tender. Will NNPC and the Presidency open their books to public scrutiny, or will these requests for detail be ignored?
