Atiku demands clarity on El-Rufai's detention, health
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for immediate government transparency regarding the detention and health condition of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai. Atiku stated El-Rufai's family and associates are deeply concerned about his welfare, noting reports of a nosebleed in custody and denied family access. He demanded the government specify which security agency (EFCC, ICPC, SSS, or others) is holding El-Rufai, emphasizing the constitutional obligation to ensure his safety, dignity, medical care, and access to family and legal representatives. Atiku warned that secrecy fuels suspicion and undermines public trust, stating that if authorities cannot guarantee El-Rufai's rights, bail should be granted immediately. He also raised concerns about selective prosecution, arguing anti-corruption efforts must be transparent and even-handed.
