Atiku insists Tinubu must answer for economic hardship before 2027 election
Atiku Abubakar, ADC presidential candidate, says President Bola Tinubu must personally account to Nigerians for economic hardship over the past three and a half years before seeking re-election in 2027. In a statement issued Thursday by ADC campaign spokesperson Phrank Shaibu, Atiku accused Tinubu of relying on political allies and defectors to defend his record instead of addressing citizens' struggles with rising food prices, healthcare access, and cost of living.
Atiku argued that Nigerians will judge Tinubu by what they experience in daily markets and households, not by promises made by politicians campaigning for his re-election. He criticized the administration's slow response to ordinary citizens' hardship while prioritizing engagements with foreign creditors and investors. The former vice-president challenged Tinubu to explain how his policies have improved access to affordable food, healthcare, and employment, stating that political rallies and endorsements cannot change economic realities voters confront.
With the 2027 election approaching, Atiku maintained that Tinubu will ultimately be judged by voters on his administration's performance regardless of political support. "He can fill every campaign stage in Nigeria. He cannot fill an empty pot with surrogates. He cannot send a politician into a market to persuade prices to fall," Atiku said, emphasizing that lived economic experience will determine electoral outcomes.
