Atiku meets ADC chairman David Mark to plot 2027 opposition strategy
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited ADC National Chairman David Mark at his Abuja residence on April 1, 2026, describing it as a productive engagement to strengthen the party and restore confidence in Nigeria’s democracy. This follows ADC’s separate Tuesday meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed via a delegation led by ex-SGF Babachir Lawal. At that meeting, Lawal warned that allowing APC to continue post-2027 would mean ‘Nigeria will probably be no more’ and ‘parking people in trailers who are unable to afford medical bills.’ ADC has been actively repositioning for the 2027 polls, recently winning over former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. The party frames itself as a credible alternative to the ruling APC, though opposition fragmentation remains a challenge. With ADC bringing prominent figures into its fold, will this consolidation create a viable challenge to APC’s incumbency advantage in 2027, or is the opposition still too divided to win?
