Atiku names ADC 2027 campaign council, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chair
Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, has approved his Presidential Campaign Council, as announced in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, on Thursday. Kashim Ibrahim-Imam will chair the council, with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai serving as Deputy Chairman. Senator Austin Akobundu has been appointed Director-General and Campaign Manager, tasked with turning strategy into coordinated action.
The council includes six Deputy Directors-General overseeing operational directorates, supported by 30 directors with specific responsibilities. Dele Momodu leads Media and Communications, while Dino Melaye heads Contact and Mobilisation. Mohammed Hayatudeen chairs the Policy Team, working with Professor Mohammed Sagagi and Professor Kingsley Moghalu to develop practical answers to Nigerians concerns. John Oyegun chairs the Campaign Advisory Board. The statement emphasized that success will be measured by how clearly the council addresses the cost of living, unemployment, insecurity, and declining purchasing power, and how effectively it organises to make Nigeria affordable again.
Given that Nasir El-Rufai is currently detained, his appointment as Deputy Chairman adds a notable dimension to the ADC's 2027 strategy. What does this signal about the opposition's approach to governance and accountability, and how might voters perceive the ADC's campaign structure moving forward?
