ADC chieftain Salihu Lukman said opposition presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Prince Adewale Adebayo and others will soon state their position on the coalition aimed at preventing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He made the disclosure in a recent interview with Channels Television, noting that opposition parties have overcome major hurdles and succeeded beyond some expectations in their bid to present a single candidate.

Lukman added that the leadership of the opposition parties will begin making public statements to show the direction they are taking on the coalition. This follows an April 2026 summit in Ibadan where parties discussed uniting against Tinubu. With less than 100 days left before the January 16, 2027 election, the plan to field a joint candidate has not yet materialised.

A united opposition could offer a credible alternative to Tinubu’s bid for a second term, potentially reshaping the 2027 race. Voters should watch for forthcoming statements from each candidate’s camp, which may reveal whether ideological or pragmatic differences can be bridged. If the coalition succeeds, it could consolidate votes against the incumbent; if not, the opposition may remain fragmented, affecting their chances.

What factors do you think will determine whether the opposition can unite, and how would a single challenger change your view of the 2027 election?
