Atiku warns presidency, INEC against ADC interference
Atiku Abubakar, African Democratic Congress 2027 presidential candidate, warns against interference in party affairs by the Presidency, INEC, and judiciary. Atiku issued the warning after his emergence as ADC presidential flagbearer, defeating ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen during the party's primary election.
In a post on X, Atiku emphasized that ADC's democratic process demonstrates "democracy is alive and well" despite claiming the ruling party is "strangling democracy." He specifically noted "great care was taken" in forming coalition processes while alleging government and INEC continue to undermine the party, even attempting to deregistration.
The former Vice President declared "any further attempt to interfere in the affairs of the party by the Presidency, INEC and judiciary will be fiercely resisted. Enough is enough." This positions ADC as potentially forming an opposition coalition ahead of 2027 elections.
With Ashiru winning ADC governorship ticket in Kaduna and Nakudu declared winner in Jigawa, the party appears to be consolidating its structure nationwide. The warning signals increasing tension between ADC and established national institutions as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
