Atiku's aide urges Tinubu to allow FBI drug-trafficking records release if clean
Paul Ibe, media aide to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, called on President Bola Tinubu to permit the FBI to release records linked to alleged drug trafficking, saying Tinubu should not block the release if he has nothing to hide. Ibe made the appeal in a post on his verified X account on August 30, 2026. He emphasized that transparency would serve national interest and deter future allegations against public officials.
This follows Tinubu’s earlier challenge in a US court to stop the Department of Justice and the FBI from making those records public, which he argued would violate his privacy. A US-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, alleged that Tinubu is fighting to keep the records concealed. The allegations, if substantiated, could influence public confidence in the presidency.
