Aviation Minister meets airlines as Jet A1 price surges 300%
Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo is meeting with Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources officials, oil marketers, and airline operators amid threats to shut down Nigeria's aviation sector. Jet A1 fuel price has surged from ₦900 per liter in February to ₦3,300 per liter—over 300% increase within weeks. Airline Operators of Nigeria warned the spike is 'artificial and unsustainable,' with international crude oil prices rising only 30% in the same period. One airline has already grounded all operations since March 13 due to rising fuel costs, with more carriers threatening to follow. 'Airline revenues are insufficient to cover the cost of fuel alone,' AON stated. The meeting is part of FG's intervention to stabilize aviation and ensure uninterrupted air travel in Nigeria.
