Bashir Ahmad says Peter Obi will quit NDC before 2031 election

Former media aide to ex‑President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, claimed on X (Twitter) on July 26, 2026 that Peter Obi will leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) before the 2031 presidential election, just as he left the Labour Party (LP) earlier. Ahmad wrote that Obi will not stay in a party where he cannot realise his ambition and will move to another party in the run‑up to 2031.

Obi ran for president in 2023 on the LP ticket. In December 2025 he quit the LP amid a leadership crisis and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). A few months later he left the ADC for the NDC, emerging as the party’s presidential nominee with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.
