Benin City Youth League fines Dynamo Academica ₦100k for unauthorized awards ceremony
Benin City Youth League has fined champions Dynamo Academica Football Academy ₦100,000 for holding their own awards ceremony immediately after the official league presentation on the same podium. League secretary Kennedy Ugbodaga called the act 'inappropriate, unprofessional and disrespectful' to the competition, clubs, officials, sponsors and guests, stating it undermined the tournament's integrity and prestige following Dynamo's 2026 title win.
The league emphasized that official award ceremonies are exclusively the organizer's responsibility across organized football, warning that allowing parallel presentations could erode discipline in future tournaments. Consequently, they've banned clubs from conducting independent award presentations, distributing trophies/mementos, or giving cash gifts during official ceremonies without prior written approval.
Dynamo must submit a formal written apology to league management and stakeholders within 48 hours or face escalating sanctions including higher fines, suspension from league activities, or forfeiture of privileges. The directive aims to preserve protocol while acknowledging clubs' desire to recognize players.
How should grassroots leagues balance legitimate team celebrations with maintaining the sanctity of official award ceremonies to prevent similar clashes?
