BMW Recalls Nearly 180,000 Vehicles in China Over Fire Risk
German automaker BMW is recalling nearly 180,000 vehicles in China due to a potential fire hazard in air conditioning wiring. The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) announced the immediate recall, affecting 133,849 domestically manufactured 5 Series cars produced between December 5, 2023, and April 12, 2025, and 45,678 imported 5 Series, 7 Series, and M5 models manufactured from June 2022 to April 2025. The issue involves a front cabin air conditioning wiring harness that may become damaged during after-sales air filter replacement, potentially causing a short circuit and fire risk. BMW will inspect and resecure the wiring harness free of charge. This recall impacts vehicles across China.
