BOI’s maiden ₦250 billion Series 1 Fixed Rate Bond closed oversubscribed, issued through BOI Financing SPV Plc under the Bank’s US$1 billion Multi-Currency Instruments Programme. Pension Fund Administrators, banks, Development Finance Institutions, corporates and other institutional investors participated, with strong anchors from the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority and International Finance Corporation.

The transaction signals growing confidence in Nigeria’s domestic capital market to mobilise long-term capital for productive investment. BOI MD/CEO Dr. Olasupo Olusi said the response endorses both the Bank and the market’s capacity to finance industrial expansion, job creation, stronger domestic value chains and a more competitive economy. He also credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s executive approval for incentives that encouraged investor demand, and noted a ₦100 billion fund approved by the President will be used to blend the bond’s pricing and cushion high interest rates for manufacturers and other BOI customers.

While BOI has a track record in international markets, this domestic bond offers another avenue to raise long-term funding from Nigerian institutional investors—critical for patient financing needed in enterprise development and industrial expansion. Proceeds will enhance BOI’s capacity to lend to eligible enterprises across priority sectors, supporting productive capacity, local value addition, employment and economic diversification. The Bank cautioned that final allotment and detailed subscription figures await regulatory approval and should not yet be disclosed.

Will this success encourage more local institutions to fund long-term projects, and how might improved access to BOI financing affect your business or investment plans?
