Forty-four pupils of Mussa Central Primary School in Askira-Uba LGA, Borno State, were abducted on May 15, 2026. Governor Babagana Umara Zulum said the Federal Government and Borno State are collaborating to secure their release, noting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security agencies to pursue the rescue. Zulum spoke on Friday, August 20, 2026, while meeting with the parents of the abducted children, who had urged authorities to intensify efforts. The meeting was attended by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Southern Borno), Acting Chief of Staff Babagana Mustapha Mallumbe, Commissioner for Education Lawan Abba Wakilbe, Commissioner for Inter-Governmental Affairs Samaila Abdulaziz Satumari, and Permanent Secretary Juliana Bitrus of the Ministry of Environment. Zulum expressed sympathy to the families and conveyed the President’s condolences, assuring parents that the Nigerian Armed Forces, federal security agencies, and state government continue working toward the children’s safe return. He emphasized that rescue operations remain ongoing and appealed to anyone with information to contact relevant security agencies.
