President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, according to a statement by his spokesman Bayo Onanuga. The directive, issued Thursday July 30 2026, places the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, in charge of coordinating the committee’s former duties. The PIC, set up in 2000 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo to oversee the privatisation, sale and lease of federal landed assets as part of the government’s monetisation policy, had exceeded its original mandate, leading to multiple litigations nationwide. The government said its continued existence is no longer justified. Effective November 5 2025, the Attorney General will take over coordination, and the former PIC Secretary, B. S. Dutsin‑Ma, has been ordered to cease acting on behalf of the committee or the federal government in related matters. The committee’s membership had included the then Minister of Housing as chair, with representatives from the Ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health, Agriculture and the Nigeria Police Force, plus private‑sector experts. A 2001 Federal Executive Council‑appointed panel spent 21 months drafting a White Paper to guide implementation of the PIC’s recommendations. Stakeholders in federal property transactions should note the shift in oversight and monitor the Attorney General’s office for updates on ongoing privatisation deals and related litigation.
