BuuPass partners SafariBucks to add cross-border payments for African travel

BuuPass, the Kenyan travel-booking startup, announced a partnership with Nairobi-based digital wallet SafariBucks to add cross-border payments to its platform. The deal lets travellers use SafariBucks to pay for BuuPass buses, flights and transfers, with transactions settled through local payment rails. SafariBucks’ Spend Management product will also integrate with BuuPass’ corporate travel platform Gavanpass, allowing companies to fund and manage tax reporting for employee travel across multiple currencies. The partnership builds on BuuPass’ April 2026 launch of Gavanpass and its 2024 acquisition of QuickBus, which operates in Nigeria and South Africa, giving the service a foothold in the Nigerian market. For Nigerian travellers and businesses, this means easier regional payments without carrying cash or relying on informal exchange fees, and a tool to consolidate corporate travel spend across East Africa. BuuPass says it has sold over 30 million tickets and processed more than $100 million in travel transactions in 2025, and sees corporate travel as its fastest‑growing segment. The SafariBucks integration lets users load a wallet in their home currency before arriving and use it after crossing a border, while local travellers can pay with methods they already use. Both companies are positioning the solution for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, co‑hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, where large numbers of fans will move between host cities.
