CAF President Patrice Motsepe arrived in Dakar on Wednesday for talks with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, following the body's controversial decision to strip Senegal of its AFCON title and award it to Morocco nearly a month ago. The March 17 ruling overturned Senegal's 1-0 victory in the January 18 final in Rabat, citing regulations about leaving the field after Senegalese players, coach Pape Thiaw, and staff walked off following a late penalty awarded to Morocco. Senegal's Football Federation has appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and the Senegalese government has demanded an international corruption investigation into CAF. Motsepe stated he would respect and implement whatever CAS decides, calling for cooperation to grow African football amid severe criticism of the Confederation's handling of the affair. Senegal defiantly paraded the trophy at Paris's Stade de France last month despite being stripped of it.

The row has created significant diplomatic friction between football federations and raised serious questions about CAF's governance and transparency. With CAS proceedings ongoing, the actual trophy presentation to Morocco remains in legal limbo. The situation puts pressure on African football's administrative credibility ahead of future tournaments.

Does CAF's handling of this incident reveal deeper institutional issues that require structural reform, or is this an overblown reaction to a legitimate rules enforcement?
