Cape Verde's 40-year-old goalkeeper Josimar Jose Evora Dias, known as Vozinha, is set to join Chilean club Colo Colo after his standout performances at the 2026 World Cup. Vozinha helped Cape Verde hold eventual champions Spain to a 0-0 draw in the group stage and then pushed Argentina to extra time in the round of 16 before losing 3-2. Although he only signed his first professional contract at 26, the veteran has played in Cyprus, Slovakia, Moldova, Angola and most recently for Portuguese second-division side Chaves. Colo Colo president Anibal Mosa said the signing was based on Vozinha's current form and that he will arrive in Chile soon for medical tests before being presented at the Monumental Stadium. The club, a 34-time Chilean league leader, currently sits near the top of the table midway through the season. Vozinha's Instagram following exploded from about 50,000 to nearly 30 million after his World Cup heroics, boosted by Brazilian influencer Casimiro. For Nigerian fans, his move shows that age need not be a barrier and that leagues outside Europe can offer viable careers for African goalkeepers. Keep an eye on his debut with Colo Colo and consider what alternative leagues might offer opportunities for home-based players.
