Carlos Alcaraz joins Vienna ATP 500 after Saudi exhibition cancelled due to Houthi attacks

World number three Carlos Alcaraz has been added to the Vienna ATP 500 tournament line-up starting October 26, 2026, after the Saudi Arabian Six Kings Slam exhibition was postponed due to Yemen Houthi attacks. Tournament director Herwig Straka confirmed Alcaraz agreed quickly to participate following Wednesday's postponement notice.

This follows Alcaraz's straight-set loss to Belgium's Zizou Bergs in the Shanghai Masters third round on October 12. The Vienna event, an indoor hard-court ATP 500, already features top-10 players Daniil Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli and Frances Tiafoe. Alcaraz previously reached the Vienna semi-finals in 2021 during his only prior appearance.

For Nigerian tennis fans tracking the ATP tour, Alcaraz's participation elevates the October 26-November 1 event's prestige as players prepare for the season finale. His recent inconsistent form since returning from injury at the US Open adds intrigue to his Vienna debut this year.

Does Alcaraz's Vienna appearance signal a return to top form after his injury layoff, or will Shanghai's early exit affect his confidence heading into the indoor season?
