Carragher crowns Arsenal world's best defensive team after Anfield win

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher declared Arsenal the best defensive team in world football on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football following their 1-0 victory at Anfield. "This Arsenal team is not only the best defensive team in the Premier League, I think they are now the best defensive team in world football," Carragher said.

The numbers back his claim: Arsenal have conceded just five goals in nine Premier League matches this season—the league's best defensive record—and only two in the Champions League ahead of Wednesday's clash with Slavia Praha. The Gunners sit top of the table, three points clear of Manchester City.

Arteta's defensive structure has evolved from last season's near-miss. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães form a formidable centre-back partnership, while Declan Rice's screening and Kai Havertz's pressing from the front disrupt opposition attacks before they develop. The system held firm against Liverpool's attacking trio at Anfield, limiting them to few clear chances.

For Nigerian EPL fans, this validates Arsenal's title credentials beyond flashy attacking play. The defensive solidity suggests sustainability across a 38-game marathon—something that eluded them last season when they led for 248 days but fell short.

Does Arteta's defensive-first approach make Arsenal genuine title favourites, or will the lack of a 20-goal striker ultimately cost them against City's firepower?
