The Central Bank of Nigeria, acting for the Debt Management Office, is auctioning N450 billion of Nigerian Treasury Bills today, Wednesday October 14, 2026. The offer splits into N50 billion each for the 91‑day and 182‑day tenors and N350 billion for the 364‑day bill, with settlement set for Thursday October 15.

This auction is the second of Q4 and follows a strong showing on October 7, when the DMO allotted N968.47 billion against a N900 billion offer for the one‑year bill, pushing the stop rate down to 15.85 %. Investors bid N1.683 trillion for the 364‑day tenor alone—about 2.4 times the advertised amount—showing sustained appetite for longer‑dated naira assets. With only N80.84 billion of bills maturing at settlement, a full allotment would withdraw roughly N369 billion from liquidity, though actual effect depends on how much is sold.

Analysts note ample liquidity could fuel speculative bidding, but a recent bond‑market sell‑off may put upward pressure on borrowing rates. The Q4 programme is front‑loaded: N2.15 trillion is planned for October (N900 bn Oct 7, N450 bn Oct 14, N800 bn Oct 28), and total Q4 offers are projected at N5.4 trillion versus N5.43 trillion in maturities, though the plan may be raised to as high as N5.75 trillion.

If you're looking for a relatively safe, naira‑denominated return, you can participate through your bank or any licensed investment platform—just meet the platform’s minimum bid. Will the strong demand for the one‑year bill push the stop rate lower again, or will bond‑market pressures keep rates steady?
