CBN offers N700bn in August 2026 Treasury Bills auction via electronic S4 platform
The Central Bank of Nigeria, acting for the Debt Management Office, will auction N700 billion of Nigerian Treasury Bills for August 2026. The offer comprises N100 billion each for the 91-day and 182-day tenors and N500 billion for the 364-day bill. Bids must be submitted electronically through the CBN's S4 Web Interface between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in multiples of N1,000 with a minimum subscription of N50,001,000. Results will be announced the same day, allotment letters issued on Thursday, August 6, and successful bidders must fund their CBN accounts by 11:00 a.m. that day. The auction uses the Dutch auction method: bids are ranked from lowest yield upward, so lower-yield bids have a better chance of full allotment. Only authorized money-market dealers have direct S4 access; retail and institutional investors participate through these dealers. The auction follows a strong July in which open-market operations absorbed N7.18 trillion of liquidity and the fixed-income market traded over N1.2 trillion in a week. Market watchers will watch whether the stop-rate on the one-year bill continues its recent downward trend amid the CBN's liquidity-mopping strategy.
Given the size and timing, will you adjust your short-term investment plans to participate via a dealer, or watch the outcome for clues on future borrowing costs?
