Chelle confirms Osimhen, Yusuf, Dele-Bashiru out for Madagascar AFCON qualifier

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle confirmed Victor Osimhen, Alhassan Yusuf and Dele-Bashiru will miss Friday's 2027 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar due to injuries. Speaking Thursday evening in Uyo, Chelle named the trio as unavailable for the match but insisted their absence won't hinder Nigeria's chances.

The injuries strike a blow to Nigeria's attack just days before the crucial qualifier, with Osimhen being the team's top scorer and Yusuf providing midfield creativity. Chelle noted Madagascar's 2019 AFCON victory over Nigeria but expressed confidence in the squad's depth, saying 'We are ready; it will be difficult because Madagascar is a big team.'

The match kicks off Friday evening at Uyo's Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. With Osimhen out, Coach Chelle indicated Adams will lead the Super Eagles' attack. Will Adams step up to fill Osimhen's shoes, or will Nigeria need to rely on collective effort to secure victory against the historically tricky Malagasy side?
